How do I even know if I have a herniated disc?

Writer's picture: Dr. Tim SwankDr. Tim Swank

First, our Doctors will perform a thorough exam. During your evaluation, we’ll assess your pain, muscle reflexes, sensation & muscle strength. If we suspect a herniated disc, you’ll be referred for advanced imaging at Raleigh Radiology.

MRI is best for evaluating the soft tissue in the spine & neck. Raleigh Radiology’s “open-bore” MRI provides state-of-the-art, radiation free evaluation of your symptoms & exam findings. Our doctors correlate your imaging results with your physical exam.

Importantly, only 10% of lumbar herniated discs ultimately require surgery. That means that 9 out of 10 people will generally respond favorably to conservative care. That is why correlating all information is critical to developing a plan of treatment.

At Triangle Spinal Decompression, we take the time to thoroughly evaluate your symptoms, explain your condition & discuss all of your treatment options.
